ABOUT

In early 2020, the global pandemic presented an opportunity to get creative in the fitness industry. Founders, Matt & Troy both own competing fitness studios a few blocks apart in downtown Vancouver and the pandemic opened them up to collaborating. Business took off as the desire for at-home fitness grew and the technology to work out from home continued to develop.

The first question to ask was, “what are the needs of our consumer?”

Health & Wellness

Physical and mental health are so important to a fulfilling life. More people are recognizing the importance of this every day and EQUIPPT is ready to support them.

Convenience

‘The Great Pause’ resulted in more working from home, commuting less, and being more present with your family. EQUIPPT aligns with all of this, the convenience of a gym in the comfort of your home. Perfect for any space and any schedule.

Equipment

Not many have their own home gym and our goal is to connect the loop between staying at home and working out online. No one is providing an assortment of workout equipment and that’s where EQUIPPT comes in.

Variety

How many purchased treadmills become clothes hangers after a certain amount of time? We provide inspiration through constantly changing the equipment in our customer’s home. The idea of rotating fitness equipment grew and EQUIPPT rental plans offer an option to change out your cardio equipment every 3 months to keep you motivated.

Community

We are social beings. We want to belong to communities that support and encourage our health and wellness and cheer us on as we reach out fitness goals.

Value

We all want value for our time and money. EQUIPPT proudly delivers both.

MEET THE TEAM

Matt, Founder

Born and raised in Vancouver, Matt has always been involved in sport and activity. His passion for hockey led to a junior hockey career through BC and Alberta and ending up at the University of British Columbia. As a full time student athlete, Matt was awarded Academic All Canadian status for excelling in the classroom while training full time. Matt graduated from UBC with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics and a minor in commerce.

Following his dream to play hockey professionally, Matt took his passion to the United States where he played professionally for 2 years. The culmination of his hockey career led directly into his career as a health and wellness coach. He has been coaching in health and fitness for 20 years, leading teams, and operating Studeo Vancouver as the general manager and now partner.

These days life for Matt is busy; his family with 2 young girls (3 & 5), his role as a managing partner at Studeo Vancouver, and EQUIPPT - Home Based Gym keep him on his toes. Matt continues to be a leader in the communities he is a part of and most recently, as the president of the UBC Men's Hockey Alumni.

Troy, Founder

Typical of most kids raised in a small Canadian town (Prince George), Troy was the Captain of the Spruce Kings hockey team before playing for UBC where he graduated with his finance degree. He went on to sign a pro-contract to play in Europe a few years later.

Upon returning, Troy acquired his business degree, became a certified personal trainer, and mindset coach, and got to work creating a space for clients to discover their potential in fitness and for trainers to grow their personal training businesses. Troy is the founder and owner of Groundwork Athletics. As an entrepreneur, natural leader, and sports enthusiast, Troy was able to combine his three passions: people, fitness, and business, to create the GWA studios in the heart of Vancouver and South Surrey.

In 2020 Troy partnered with Matt to start their new business, EQUIPPT - Home Based Gym, providing rotating fitness bundles for clients to rent and take advantage of the growth of at-home fitness. These days you can find him pounding the pavement of the Vancouver Seawall or deep in the trails of North Van. He has completed Ironman three times, multiple marathons, and is now into 50km+ trail running races. His 3 kids Marlow + Max + Bailey have proudly watched their Dad cross numerous finish lines. His long-term fitness goal? Completing the Grouse Grind at 100 years old
